artWALK and PechaKucha_Beijing are proud to host
our 4th events at Jiuchang Art District on September 22nd organized
with Arario Gallery. Our events are especially designed to coincide
with the opening exhibitions and art events of various Jiuchang
art galleries, as well as DIAF 2007 (Beijing Dangdai International
Art Festival) at the 798 Art District and the Art Beijing art fair.
artWALK and PechaKucha Beijing invites the public out to experience
an afternoon of events from 3-6 pm. A PechaKucha bilingual (English
and Chinese) discussion series will be hosted from 4:30-6pm.
Visitors are encouraged to independently explore the art venues
where special events will be hosted: including a wine tasting, graffiti
demonstration by artists, opening art exhibitions, and the Pechakucha
discussion series.
This event is free and open to the public. Maps and flyers will
be distributed city-wide and information will be available online
at www.artwalkbeijing.com and www.pkbj.org. A limited transportation
service will be arranged on a first come first served basis to allow
visitors unfamiliar with the Jiuchang Art District in Wang Jing
to attend the events.
ABOUT artWALK www.artwalkbeijing.com
artWALK Beijing is a regular gathering for the community to explore
and engage in the city¡¯s vibrant contemporary art scene. The event
is free and open to the public with specific aims to provide a social
platform on which to experience the explosion of creativity on display
in these unique cultural venues.
ABOUT PechaKucha_Beijing www.pkbj.org
The expression Pecha Kucha is Japanese and translates best as "the
sound of conversation". Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid
Klein and Mark Dytham in Tokyo, was conceived in 2003 as a place
for young designers to meet, network and show their work in public.
Pecha Kucha Night is an uncommercial event and has spread virally
to more than 70 cities across the world. The principals for each
Pecha Kucha night are the same: The speakers are allowed to showcase
20 images, each visible for 20 seconds - giving a total presentation
time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter
is up. The special presentation format unites Pecha Kucha Nights
from Tokyo to New York, from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and from
London to Beijing. It has encouraged passionate local teams all
over the world to give outstanding presenters a stage to share their
fascination about art, architecture, design, and more fields within
the creative industries. A book about the global network of Pecha
Kucha Night will be published by end of the year.
