COMMUNITY ART PROJECT - AUSTRIA,INTERNATIONAL |

706 SPACE, 798 ART DISTRICT / SEPTEMBER 22-24 |
The Idea
Artists and writers have come together to jointly create a computer-art
project.
In today's information age, a key idea is the exchange of ideas
and concepts, through communication, innovation, cooperation and
interlinking.
The computer as the tool and the internet as the primary medium
facilitate, even stimulate an exchange of ideas and hypotheses.
The artists realize that new discoveries can only be made through
change and exchange.
By including an international "component", the "password"
project has broken down national boundaries and pursues artistic
communication on an international platform.
The creative process is no longer constrained by egocentric mind-sets;
instead, the final artistic product is a culmination of collective
input and responsibility. Creating the future demands channeling
all the creative potential of the present. The "password"
project is an experiment in conjoining various perceptions and thereby
intensifying the reception of ideas.
The First Stimulus
Authors choose fragments from their texts which are then put on-line.
These texts are used as stimuli for visual representation.
Second Step
The artists use the possibilities which the information technology
sector provides for their visual concept. The pictures are e-mailed
to the other artists in the group who can then alter and re-alter
the image. Then end result is a complex construct to which many
have contributed.
The Web
The computer-generated picture files are condensed in size and
put on-line for all.

Presentation
The interactive pictures will be shown at distinctive locations
in different cultural contexts throughout the world. The individual
series will be printed on semi-transparent bands of fabric, mounted
on light-weight, take-apart metal or plastic frames and will be
presented as "sculptures" extending across the room. The
authors of the area will read from the works which inspired the
pictures. Musical improvisation to the individual pieces completes
the presentation.
