"Language / Fable" (Yuyan/Yuyan) explored the richness of language(s), and how different languages are used, imagined and magnified by artists and artworks.

Different artists dealt with this thematic in their own artistic languages. Not only in a static way (photography, video, visual art) but also through performance, bringing it out onto the streets, as work-in-motion. The festival concentrated on live performances, from video performance to dance, circus and everything in between.

During the 3 weeks 100 000 visitors, and 500 artists joined the performance spot. 32 activities were implemented by Festival program curators and more than 60 activities by other initiatives in the Dashanzi Art District ; drawing on 100 000 visitors and 150 national and international media representatives.

2005 was the French year in China . The Honorary Committee of the Year of France in China and the French Embassy supported many high quality contemporary art activities by Chinese artists. DIAF2005 was closed by a fascinating contemporary circus, featuring the human earthworm, Eric Lecomte, from France .

The Electronic music of Cui Jian and Wang Lei left a deep impression on everyone.

Performance art project "Transborder Language" was directed by Huang Rui and Shu Yang. It was the 3rd time for this workshop, this year with more than 20 artists joining the 3 days workshop.

The Short Step, (Kilometer Zero), was a performance of 400 people from England , Canada and America who dressed into traditional Chinese blue factory worker suits and walked around the Dashanzi Art District . It was a beautiful, light day that explored identity and cultural images.

The opening ceremony exhibition of Italy Gallery Continua, introduced artists from Italy and other countries. It was a quality visual experience of a Cooperative Event in the District.
